Week 2: Animals

Week 2, Day 1:

Read the creation story from Genesis (from the Jesus Storybook Bible)

Wonder about creation, using these prompts to get started:

  • I wonder what nothing looks like? I wonder what it feels like?

  • I wonder if God planned the creation?

  • I wonder if each new day of creation inspired the next one?

  • I wonder if God has a favorite day of creation?I wonder what it feels like to create something from nothing?

  • I wonder what it feels like to speak things into being?

  • I wonder what it feels like to see God?

  • I wonder what you wonder about?

Color this picture as a response to the story. Feel free to add animals, plants, and even yourself!

Week 2, Day 2:

Learn about an animal: click here for a selection of short books to read (or hear) from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, or click here to watch a video from the zookeepers at Brookfield Zoo.

Teach someone what you learned! Explain about your animal to a parent or sibling; call a friend or grandparent; or even draw a poster about your animal.

Week 2, Day 3:

Play a game!

  • Animal Charades: divide into two teams. Taking turns, each team chooses an animal (keep it secret from the other team!), and one person acts out the animal without speaking. The other team tries to guess the animal.

  • Animal Movement Dice: click here to print out dice and then assemble them. Roll the dice and move the animal you roll!

Reflect: Aren’t God’s creatures amazing? Spend a few minutes reflecting on the animals God has made. In your journal, draw a picture of a favorite animal, write a poem about animals, or praise God for his creation.
