Week 1, Day 1:
Watch this video, created by Savior attender Kristen Page using her own photography with music arranged by Anna Laura Page and performed by Wren Page (cello) and Anna Laura Page (piano).
Read the lyrics to the Doxology and “All Things Bright and Beautiful.”
“Doxology”
Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him all creatures here below,
Praise Him above ye heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
“All Things Bright and Beautiful” -- words by Cecil F. Alexander; v. 3 by Jean Anne Shafferman
All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.
Each little flower that opens, each little bird that sings;
He made their glowing colors, He made their tiny wings.
The purple-headed mountains, the river running by,
The sunset and the morning that brightens up the sky,
The cold wind in the winter, the pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden, God made them everyone.
The joy of loving parents, the blessings of each child,
For friends above and friends on earth, all gentle thoughts and mild.
We dedicate this child to You to grow in all Your ways,
To laugh and learn and worship, and sing Your name in praise.
All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful, the Lord God made them all.
God gave us eyes to see them, and lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty who has made all things well.
Wonder:
I wonder what it sounds like when the heavenly hosts praise God?
I wonder how the flowers feel about God?
I wonder how the flowers praise God?
I wonder how God decided on the color for each bird, flower, butterfly?
I wonder how God created colors?
I wonder how we can see God’s creation better?
I wonder how we can tell others how great God is?
I wonder what you wonder about?
Week 1, Day 2:
Grow a plant! Choose one (or more) or the options below:
Garlic greens: place 3-4 garlic cloves in potting soil. Place in sunlight and in 7-10 days you’ll have garlic greens.
Herbs: mix potting soil with a little bit of water so it’s moist, then loosely fill each compartment of an egg carton. Sprinkle a few herb seeds (like basil) in each compartment, then cover loosely with plastic wrap. Put the egg carton in a sunny spot and make sure the soil stays moist; when the plants are about 4 inches tall, transplant them outdoors or into a larger pot.
Avocado: wash and dry an avocado pit, and fill a glass or jar with water. Find the broad side of the pit; this should sit in the water. Put 3 toothpicks into the avocado pit so the bottom inch can rest in the water. Add water to keep it at the same level, and in 2-6 weeks you should see roots sprouting. Once the stem is 6-7 inches high, cut it back by half; when the stem has leaves again, transplant it to a pot with soil.
Week 1, Day 3:
Paint with leaves or petals: create a piece of art using materials from your yard. Older kids can learn about chlorophyll, which makes leaves green and also helps plants absorb sunlight to produce food (the process of photosynthesis).
Reflect: How many different plants do you see around you? What are your favorite plants? Draw a picture or write a poem about one of your favorite plants.
